This section caused feelings of mainly discomfort from the unpleasant events that began to pile on. First, Kevin's inability to acclimate back to the present made me feel frustrated for him. When they reunited and returned home in the previous section, I felt a sense of relief. It seemed that things would be predictable and stable in 1976, but this was not the case. Not only did Kevin have trouble with this new reality, but Dana started to feel powerless. Before they could try to reach some normalcy in their lives, Dana was taken to the past again. Here is where more of my discomfort came from: After Tom Weylin passed, Rufus placed the blame on Dana. Following this, she was sent to work in the fields and was whipped for actions. The severity of her injuries before being whipped made the incident much worse. Finally, the mention of Margaret Weylin returning home brought some unease. What would she be like without Tom in the house? I fear that her presence may cause problems for Dana.

Kindred Pg. 160- 188
I really did not enjoy the events that occurred in this chapter, with the exception of Dana and Kevin being reunited! First of all, Alice was returned to Rufus, giving him exactly what he wanted from the beginning, as he has complete control over Alice. And what made the situation even worse is the fact that Alice's husband, Issac, had his ears cut off and was sold to a Mississippi trader, making it so that Alice will likely never see him again. Alice was born as a free woman, but now becomes enslaved and her husband is taken away from her. The whole situation is just so twisted in the way that everyone loses other than Rufus. And even after Rufus gets to obtain Alice as a slave, he still does not stop harming her. Rather, he justifies his acts of harm through claiming they come from a place of love which just makes everything worse. Alice has been so broken down and exhausted by the horrible beating she was given for escaping (even though she was a free slave beforehand) that she is now willing to submit to Rufus's acts of harm. Dana is even asked by Rufus to help support his wrongdoings. Dana is forced to see beyond the clear immorality behind Rufus raping Alice. Dana realizes that there is 3 options for Alice. Alice can either submit to Rufus, not submit and get beat, or run away and likely get caught. Because Dana has seen the great extremities to which slaves will be whipped, she realizes the complexities of the situation. Moreover, it is sad that Alice has to watch Kevin and Dana become reunited while she knows that she'll never get to see her husband again. The only reason why Dana is able to see Kevin again in this era of is because Kevin is white, and therefore has power. The only thing I enjoyed about this chapter is that Kevin and Dana were reunited and were able to return home.
